Lon A. Tuin

Lon A. Tuin, 82, Marion, passed away at 3:34 am on Monday, June 6, 2022, at Colonial Oaks Assisted Living in Marion. He was born in Denver, Colorado, on Sunday, August 27, 1939, to John and Lillian (Edwards) Tuin. On June 28, 1960, he married Janice L. Harrison.  

Lon graduated from Brighton High School and attended Pasadena/Point Loma Nazarene. He was a teacher/counselor for 30 years with Garden Grove Unified School District (California), where he was the wrestling coach for many years at Los Amigos Garden Grove. He had also started the wrestling program at Pasadena College. 

Lon was a member of College Wesleyan Church, board member at Grant County Rescue Mission, Chairman of Marion Philharmonic, and wrestling coach at Marion High School. He enjoyed genealogy, playing piano, and writing letters to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He also served on several local boards.  

Survivors include his wife, Janice L. Tuin of Marion; son, Jon (Heather) Tuin of Tustin, CA; daughters, Jil (Ron) Mazellan of Marion and Ronda (Dave) Toevs of Marion; grandsons, Nathan (Heather) Mazellan, Kyle (Ashley) Mazellan, Evan (Sirrah) Mazellan, Tyler (Anelys) Tuin, Jens Tuin, and Jordan Tuin; granddaughters, Emma Toevs and Anna Toevs; great-grandsons, Madden Corey, Noah Tuin, and Ronan Mazellan; great-granddaughters, Everly Mazellan, Ruby Mazellan, Isla Mazellan, Edie Mazellan, Simone Mazellan, and Tuilelaith Tuin; sisters, Sharolyn (Larry) Perkins and Sandee (Tracy) Finnell; and brothers, Jan (Sandy) Tuin and Van (Trish) Tuin. 

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother-in-law, Larry Ross. 

The family will receive visitors from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm on Friday, June 10, 2022, at College Wesleyan Church, 200 E. 38th St., Marion, IN. 

Immediately following the time of visitation, a service to celebrate Lon’s life will begin at 1:00 pm. Burial will take place at Grant Memorial Park.
