Lera Luree McDaniel

Lera Luree McDaniel, 95, of Wabash, Indiana, died at 10:00 pm, Friday, September 3, 2021, at Miller’s Merry Manor East in Wabash. She was born on May 25, 1926, in Wabash County, Indiana, to Orla O. and Clara Belle (Brane) Smith.

Lera was a graduate of Lincolnville High School and Fort Wayne Business College. She married Don McDaniel in Peru, Indiana on July 5, 1949; he died August 24, 1986. Lera worked for Richard Byrd at the Wabash Abstract Company. She also worked at H& R Block 10 years, as a custodian at the Wabash City Schools and Metropolitan School District of Wabash County, Honeywell Inc., Ford Meter Box, General Tire, and the US Census Bureau. Lera was a member of the United Methodist Church, attending the Wabash First, Lincolnville, and Asbury churches. She enjoyed crocheting and crocheted the Lord’s Prayer for several churches. She also enjoyed gardening, traveling, quilting, and especially spending time with the kids. Lera was known for sending cards to people on special occasions.

She is survived by two children, Asher (Diane) McDaniel of Fairfield Bay, Arkansas, and Leralee Riddle of Huntington, Indiana, five grandchildren, Trinka (Brian) Ballor of Smithville, Missouri, Lauren (Gabe) Wittig of Pleasant Hill, Missouri, Ashlee (Rick) Watson of Centerpoint, Pennsylvania, Randy Riddle of Clearfield, Florida, and Valerie Riddle of Huntington; seven great grandchildren, and one great-great grandson. She was also preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, two sisters, and her great-grandson, Jake Holland.

Funeral services will be 2:00 pm, Wednesday, September 8, 2021, at Grandstaff-Hentgen Funeral Service, 1241 Manchester Avenue, Wabash, with Alan Siepker officiating. Burial will be in Roann Community Cemetery. Friends may call 12:30 – 2:00 pm Wednesday, at the funeral home.

Preferred memorials are Center Grove Cemetery or McDaniel Seminary Scholarship Fund at the United Methodist Foundation.
