Larry D. O’Donnell, Sr.

Larry D. O’Donnell, Sr., 76, Marion, passed away on Thursday, April 27, 2023, peacefully in his home in Marion, Indiana, surrounded by his family. He was born in Marion, Indiana, on October 3, 1946, to SFC Robert and Mary (Coffey) O’Donnell. On December 28, 1982, he married Rosemarie Schäfer, who survives.

Larry was a lifetime member of the AMVETS. He proudly served his country in the United States Army and was a Vietnam veteran. He retired as SSG Larry Dean O’Donnell (1966-1987). During his time of service, he was a sharpshooter and served with the 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment, the 82nd Airborne Division, where he earned his jump wings, and the 21st Support Command. Following his service in Vietnam, he worked at RCA for a short time before returning to the Army. After retiring from the Army in 1987, Larry was a car salesman in Wabash, an insurance salesman, and then a cook at the Trade Winds before starting his karaoke business in Grant County, where he was known as The Irishman. He loved watching crime shows and John Wayne movies, and he loved motorcycles, specifically Harley-Davidsons. He and his wife enjoyed taking trips together on his Harley Trike.

In addition to his loving wife of 40 years, survivors include his children, Tammy Joe O’Donnell, Larry Dean (Jennifer) O’Donnell, Michelle, Hannelore (Phillip) Harris, Robert O’Donnell, II, Danielle O’Donnell, and Monik (Jeremias) Tetactle; 24 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; two sisters; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, SFC Robert and Mary O’Donnell.

The family will receive visitors from 10:30 am  to 11:30 am on Wednesday, May 3, 2023, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral & Cremation Service, North Chapel, 1341 N. Baldwin Ave., Marion, IN.

Immediately following the time of visitation, a service to celebrate Larry’s life will begin at 11:30 am. Burial will take place at Marion National Cemetery.
