Kim Alan Rogers, age 83, of Marion, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, January 7, 2023.
He was born to George E. Rogers and Mary (Burton) Rogers on March 5, 1939, in Indianapolis, Indiana. His family, from Franklin, Indiana moved to Marion after WWII when Kim started the second grade.
He graduated from Marion High School in 1957 and earned an accounting degree at Indiana University in Bloomington. On campus he was an active member of Sigma Chi. He continued his education there and earned his law degree in 1964. On graduation weekend 1961, he married Glenda Robb, and they were married for 61 years.
In 1964 Kim served two years in the U.S. Army. He was a First Lieutenant in Vietnam attached to specialized intelligence. Beginning his civilian life, he was a senior partner with the Kiley, Osborn, Kiley firm for 30 years.
In 1996, he established Rogers & Rogers Law Firm with his son, George R. Rogers. He was a member of the American Bar Association, the Indiana State Bar Association, and the Grant County Bar Association. His treatise on Probate Law was published by the Indiana State Bar Association. He served with distinction as a Grant County Deputy Prosecutor for over 20 years. He was known as a professional with genuine integrity.
Kim certainly had a fun-loving life style. For over 45 years he relished the fishing group’s annual trip to Minnesota and to Michigan. The Reed Ranch buddies always said they fished but never brought any home. They enjoyed local bars (always Miller Lite), golf courses, and the shooting range. Another group went on what he and his son termed the Wild West Reunion every summer for 19 years, hiking in Glacier and Teton National Parks. His vigor was amazing since open heart surgery at age 48 with a lengthy rehabilitation. He was told he might live only 10 more years, rather than the 35 more years he enjoyed. He loved boating on local reservoirs and travel. He traveled in Asia and Europe, sailed in the Grenadines, and hiked in Cornwall. By far, his best traveling was four trips to Croatia.
Throughout his life in Marion, he embraced his community. He was Chairman of the Board of First National Bank and Bank One in Marion. He was President of the local I.U. Alumni Association. He served on the boards of Marion General Hospital, Marion Philharmonic Orchestra, and Grant County United Way. He was also a member of Marion Chamber of Commerce, Mecca Club, Aero Club, Meshingomesia Country Club, Columbia Club, Indianapolis, Elk’s Country Club, American Legion Post 10, the military society 40 & 8, V.F.W. (Whitefish, Montana) and McCulloch Lodge No. 737 F&AM. He was also a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church that merged with Temple Congregational Church.
Kim was a devoted husband, supportive brother, dedicated father, and enthusiastic grandfather. He relished the accomplishments of his son and daughter. He admired the brilliance of his pathologist sister. He delighted in the individual personalities of his four grandchildren (2 at I.U. and 2 at Purdue).
He is survived by his amazing wife of 61 years, Glenda (Robb) Rogers; his sister, Susan J. Rogers; his children, Claire Rogers Wiegel (Brian J. Wiegel) of Indianapolis, and George Robb Rogers of Arlington, Virginia; and his grandchildren, Drew, Benton, and Carly Wiegel, and Alexandra Rogers. He is also survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Dean and Betsy Robb of Bend, Oregon, and Laurel Robb (husband, Bruce deceased) of Owosso, Michigan; his mother-in-law, Beulah M. Robb of Marion, Indiana, and cousin, Lynn (Andrew) Wiesman of Greenwood, Indiana.
Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, January 14, 2023 at Temple Congregational Church, 1006 N. Western Avenue, Marion, Indiana. Funeral Services will begin at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Jeffrey Jahn officiating.
Private Family Burial will follow funeral services in Estates of Serenity Cemetery, 2225 S. Lincoln Blvd., Marion, Indiana.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Community Foundation of Grant County, 505 W. Third Street, Marion, Indiana 46952, with the designation of Give to Grant Fund which has a one-to-one donation match; or to any other of the many foundation funds; or to any charity of the donor’s choice.
