Judith Kay Hatfield

Judith Kay Hatfield, 70, Marion, passed away at 7:34 a.m. on Wednesday, December 26, 2018, in her son’s home.  She was born in Marion on September 6, 1948, and the daughter of the late Merrill L. and Martha (Hudson) Sands.

Judith graduated from Mississinewa High School in 1966 and received her associate’s degree in nutrition from Ball State University.  She was also a student of Hillsdale College and studied constitutional classes.  Judith spent her career serving the Mississinewa Community and Yorktown Community schools, where she was the Director of Food Services.  She was a 30-year member of the Grant County School Food Service Association and a member of the Corvette Club.

She enjoyed crocheting, traveling, camping, baking, and watching sports.  She was a loyal listener of the Fort Wayne Komets.

She is survived by her daughter, Patricia “Trish” (Mike) Winkler, Rio Rancho, NM; son, Carl (Shannon) Hatfield, Van Buren; grandchildren, Jordan Hatfield, Madison Hatfield, and Hailey Winkler; brother, Merrill “Butch” (Midge) Sands, Jonesboro; and sister-in-law, Juanita Sands, MS.

Her brother, Tom Sands, also preceded her in death.

The family will receive visitors from 4 to 8 p.m. on Friday, December 28, 2018, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, Storey Chapel, 400 E. Main St., Gas City, IN.

Judith’s funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, December 29, 2018, at the funeral home with Pastor Darrel Smith officiating.  Burial will follow at Grant Memorial Park.
