Joseph “Joe” Lamont Jones, 59, of Peru, passed away peacefully at home and entered into eternal rest on Wednesday March 20, 2024

He was born in Washington D.C. on February 5, 1965 to George and Mary Smith. Joe was man of many traits. If you have been to a local fair, you would remember him from his infectious smile and unforgettable laugh. He dedicated the last 32 years of his life traveling and assembling carnival rides locally every summer. He enjoyed fishing, camping, grilling, socializing, having a cold one, and spending time with his family. He will always be remembered for his memorable jokes, his loving ways, and unforgettable words of advice. 

He is survived by his long time companion, Trixy Dazey, his children Damien Jones, Donovan Jones, Kourtney Cannon, Devin (Maria) Coffman, Braxton (Kaytlin) Jones, and Terrin (Kasyn) Jones, his grandchildren Dwayne, Caleb, Harmony, Ariya, Kalaya, Kalyus, Mary, and Jamal. He is also survived by his brothers George Smith, Billy (Nancy) Coffman, and Josh Coffman. Mother-in-law Joyce Owen, uncles Will (Phyllis) Jones and Jeffrey Ward, and cousins Tonya Jones, Shadonna Gray, and Demetrius Jones. Joe will also be held in the hearts of many nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends who wait to be reunited with him again in Heaven.

He was preceded in death by his mother Mary Smith, grandmother Emma Ward, ex-wife Jennifer Burnett, father-in-law Clarence Owen, and granddaughter Kalexa Burrus.

Family and friends may visit from 4-6 p.m. on Thursday, March 28th at Flowers-Leedy Funeral Home, 105 West Third Street, Peru, Indiana. Service will be officiated by Pastor Mindy Mayes.  Following the service, a last ride to the Mississinewa Reservoir, where a brief lakeside memorial will take place.
