Joan Freck May 5, 1929 ~ November 5, 2020

Joan Freck, 91, Indianapolis, passed away at 10:55 am on Thursday, November 5, 2020, at IU Health Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis. She was born in Marion, Indiana, on Sunday, May 5, 1929, to Ralph and Lula (Parker) Holdren. On April 8, 1950, she married Warren Freck who preceded her in death in October 1979. She was a loving and dedicated wife, mother, daughter, sibling, and friend.  

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ralph and Lula Holdren; husband, Warren Freck; brothers, Harry Holdren, Eugene Holdren (twins); sisters, Maxine Maloy, Martha Mathews. 

Survivors include her son, Joseph Freck of Gainesville, FL; daughter, Lois (Douglas) Corbin of Indianapolis; granddaughters, Alix Freck of Gainesville, FL, Kelli (Chris) Neat of Denver, CO; and grandson, Clinton Corbin of Indianapolis. 

Joan graduated from Jefferson High School in Warren, Indiana. She married her high school sweetheart, Warren Freck, after his service in World War II. She worked as a secretary at Purdue University until the time of his graduation. The couple spent the majority of their life in Marion, Indiana where they raised their family. Joan was a member of Temple Congregational Church in Marion for 40 years and served on the Women’s Auxiliary Committee. She enjoyed music, was a beautiful piano player, and enjoyed reading her Bible. Her favorite thing was spending time with her family. She enjoyed the TV Shows the Price Is Right, the local news station, and Jeopardy. Her favorite movies were The Bible and The Ten Commandments. She loved the Old Time Pottery Store. 

She was a wonderful caregiver to her dying husband while he was suffering with Lou Gehrig’s Disease. After his death, she became a private caretaker for the elderly in their individual homes. 

In 1999, she moved to Indianapolis to be closer to her daughter, son-in-law, and grandchildren. She lived nearby and was great assistance in watching her grandchildren and household upkeep. 

In 2011, Joan relocated to the Altenheim Community Assisted living where she resided for next 9 years. She became extended family to the staff and residents. She made many friends and enjoyed living there. One of her favorite things there was attending church and the musical activities. 

The family will receive visitors from 12:30 pm to 2:00 pm on Tuesday, November 10, 2020, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, North Chapel, 1341 N. Baldwin Avenue, Marion, IN. 

Immediately following the time of visitation, a service to celebrate Joan’s life will begin at 2:00 pm with Pastor Bruce Bendinger officiating. Burial will take place at Gardens of Memory – Marion with a brief ceremony in the chapel.
