Jay O. Davis

Jay O. Davis, 88, passed away Sunday afternoon, July 15, 2018, in Miller’s Merry Manor, Hartford City, with family by his side. He was born in Muncie, Indiana, the son of the late John and Orpha (Newman) Davis.

He graduated from Muncie Central High School and served in the United States Army in Germany during the Korean Conflict.

Mr. Davis married Mary Rhinehart on November 15, 1953.

Jay was employed as an Inspector with Warner Gear, Muncie, for 31 years, before his retirement in 1978. He enjoyed woodworking, working on cars, gardening, fishing, and was an avid NASCAR fan. He attended First Community Church, Matthews, and was a member of the American Legion in Upland.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Davis, Matthews; three children: Dona (Gabe) Coons, Hartford City; Jayetta Embry, Mooresville; and Jimmy (Joyce) Davis, Matthews; five grandchildren: Joshua Coons, Justin Coons, Crystal Davis, Sam Coons, and Candy Ewart; eight great grandchildren; a sister: Judy Wilson, Dunkirk; and his special dog, Chloe.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, John Davis; a sister, Clara Logan; and a son-in-law, Jayme Embry.

Arrangements were entrusted to Armes-Hunt Funeral Home, Jones-Smith Chapel, 259 N. Main St., Upland, Indiana, where a visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 18, 2018, from 4-8 pm and on Thursday, July 19, 2018 from 10-11 am. The funeral service for Jay will be on Thursday, July 19, 2018 at 11:00 am, at the funeral home, with Pastor Joe Ruberg officiating. Interment with Military Rites will follow at Matthews Cemetery, Matthews.
