Jane (Woodard/Hubbard) Markham graduated to Heaven on December 2, 2018, at Colonial Oaks Health and Rehab. Born March 19, 1925, in Hardin County, Illinois, to John C. and Josephine (Goins) Stacy, Jane was a middle child in her family, with her four older sisters: Pedo, Pearl, Hattie, and Stella and three younger brothers: Hal, Moat, and Ervin, all preceding her in death.
Jane is survived by one son, Lloyd E. (Marcia) Woodard, Swayzee, and four grandchildren: Nathan Woodard, Joshua (Jennifer) Woodard, Anna (Shane) Conway, and Caleb Woodard, along with ten great-grandchildren: Oliver, Penelope, Audrey, Milo, Colson, Paige, Jack, Angelus, Levi, and Izzy.
Jane is also preceded in death by an ex-husband: James Gilbert, and three husbands: Kenneth Woodard, Archie Hubbard, and Gordon Markham.
A nurse’s aide all her working life, Jane began her career at the Iowa State Sanitarium in Davenport. While there, she met and married her second husband, Ken. The couple moved to Chicago, where Lloyd was born. Jane continued as an aide, working at the Baptist Retirement Home, in Maywood, Illinois, for nearly two decades. During that time, her husband, Ken, passed away. Jane then moved to Indianapolis, where she was an aide first at the Marion County Home and then at Ritter Retirement Center. During her time in Indianapolis, she met and married her third husband, Archie, who passed away in 1995.
After her retirement and Archie’s passing, Jane moved to Grant County, where she lived a few years, before meeting her fourth husband, Gordon, in a magazine pen pal column. She married him in 1999, and moved to his home in Missouri, where they spent one blissful year, before Gordon’s decease in an auto accident.
Jane then returned to Grant County, near family, living at Northwood Manor, before moving to Colonial Oaks, where she resided until December 2, 2018. Then she slipped from this world, into Jesus’ welcoming arms.
Her smile, humor, and love will be cherished by her family and others, including medical staff who she worked with throughout her career, and those who cared for her in her final years, including Colonial Oaks staff, who nicknamed her “Mama Janie”. Jane believed in love, she showed love every day in practical ways, she looked for love, believing she would find it…and love always found her.

The family will receive visitors from 5 to 8 p.m. on Friday, December 7, 2018, with Jane’s funeral service taking place at 11 a.m. on Saturday, December 8, 2018. Both visitation and funeral service will be held in the chapel at College Wesleyan Church, 200 E. 38th St., Marion, IN.
