James “Pooch” O. Sorah, 81, Marion, passed away at 10:30 a.m. on Sunday, October 9, 2016, at Wesleyan Health Care and Rehab, where he had been a resident for the past 11 years. He was born on June 15, 1935, in Bristol, Virginia, to the late Jessie “Yara” and Martha Sorah. Jim married Mabel Isenhour, and she preceded him in death on June 8, 2003.

Jim worked at Knox Glass (Glass Containers), Red Gold, Inc., and McDonald’s in Gas City before his retirement. He loved his church, Calvary Baptist, as well as his pastor, James Sexton, and wife, Freda. Jim enjoyed camping and, in his younger years, he liked to roller skate.

He leaves behind several nieces and nephews and was preceded in death by Mabel, his wife of 42 years; brothers, Edward “Junior” Sorah, Munsey “Mutt” Sorah, Stewart Washington Sorah, and Charles “Cotton” Sorah; sisters, Ona Mae Harper and Shelia Leonard; and nephew, Warren “Rooster” Sorah.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Friday, October 14, 2016, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, 400 E. Main St., Gas City, IN. Services will begin at 1 p.m. with Pastor Jim Sexton officiating. Burial will follow at Gardens of Memory.
