James Jay Jones, 78, of Greentown, passed away at 6:25 pm on Wednesday, October 26, 2022, in his home. He was born in Marion, Indiana on Wednesday, July 5, 1944, to Harold and Julia (Smith) Jones. On November 1, 1964, he married Virginia Farley, and she survives.
James graduated from Swayzee High School and was a farmer throughout his adult life. He was a member of FFA and was well-liked in the community. He had had a liver transplant several years ago and had fought many physical battles for several years. The family requests that cards be sent to family and, because James received 80 units of blood, they request that friends and family donate blood at a Red Cross Blood Drive in his memory.
In addition to his wife, survivors include his son, Lee (Lisa) Jones of Swayzee; daughter, Candy (Randy) Altherr of Tipton; grandsons, Cody Terry of Swayzee, Nick (Nicole) Altherr of Pendleton, and Cooper Altherr of Tipton; granddaughter, Lexi Altherr of West Lafayette; sister, Janice (late Max) Smith; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a grandson, Dustin Walker.
A graveside service for James will take place at 3:00 pm on Friday, November 4, 2022, at Knox Cemetery in Point Isabel, IN. Pastor Brian White will be officiating.
