J.C. Parton, 89, Gas City, passed away at 3:08 am on Saturday, January 23, 2021, at Wesleyan Health Care & Rehabilitation Center in Marion. He was born in Greene County, Tennessee, on Wednesday, September 23, 1931, to Walter Parton and Lockie (Gosnell) Leoffer. On December 18, 1965, he married Mary L. Niverson who preceded him in death on September 12, 2004.
J.C. joined the United States Army and served in the Korean War. Following his military service, J.C. worked as a tool and die maker at Active Products. He enjoyed fishing and metal detecting. He was a hard worker and good provider for his family.
Survivors include his daughters, Trudi (Brian) Surpas of Key West, FL, Cindy (Carl) Underwood of TN; son, J.C. (Etta) Parton of TN; three step-daughters, Sandra (Ronnie) Dawson, Diane Horn, Linda (Ed) Ritter; step-sons, John (Cindy) Atkinson, Kenny (Terri) Atkinson; sisters, Dollie, Alyne, June, and Judy; two grandchildren; ten step-grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father, Walter L Parton; mother, Lockie Leoffer; wife, Mary L. Parton; sons, Steve Parton and an infant; as well as two brothers.
The family will receive visitors from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm on Thursday, January 28, 2021, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, Storey Chapel, 400 E. Main Street, Gas City, IN.
Immediately following the time of visitation, a Funeral Service to celebrate J.C.’s life will begin at 1:00 pm with Pastor Mick Simpkins officiating. Burial will take place at Riverside Cemetery.
