Inez L. Smith

Inez L. Smith, 71, of Marion, passed away at 11:04 am on Friday, March 1, 2024, in her home. She was born in Marion, Indiana, on Wednesday, February 4, 1953, to Palmer L. and Lois Elsie (Harter) Smith, Sr.  

Inez graduated from Mississinewa High School in 1971 and worked for the U.S. Department of Justice, Federal Bureau of Prisons for 23 years, retiring as a Unit Manager in 2003.  She was a member of Seventh Day Adventist Church.  Inez enjoyed listening to music, watching movies, and bowling. She also liked going to game nights with her friends and family. Inez loved to travel and had been to Hawaii several times. She had also gone on a special vacation to Greece. More than anything, Inez was a social, outspoken, and loud woman who loved to meet new people. She had a way of making a community of friends wherever she lived.

Inez is survived by her brother, Gregory I. (Judy) Smith of Gas City; sister, Georgia E. (Robert) Kirby of Marion; nephews, Doug (Stacy) Smith and Palmer L. Smith, III; nieces, Gretchen L. Smith, Christina (Nigaul) Drollinger, Megan (Andrew) Bishop and Ashley (Robert) Skog; several great-nieces and great-nephews; good friends, Debra Shirley and Janet Perdue; many friends; and her beloved dogs, Georgie, Blue Bell, and Joy.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Palmer L. Smith, Jr.; nephews, Robert LeRoyce Kirby, II, and Jodie L. Long; and her beloved dogs, Elsie, Sadie, and Ruby.

The family will receive visitors from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm on Monday, March 11, 2024, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral & Cremation Service, Storey Chapel, 400 E. Main St., Gas City, IN.

Immediately following the time of visitation, a funeral service to celebrate Inez’ life will begin at 1:00 pm. Burial will take place at a later date at Riverside Cemetery in Gas City.
