Huntington County’s Rock Creek Township Sees “Significant” Storm Damage

HUNTINGTON COUNTY,Indiana – Robert Jeffers, Deputy Director Huntington County Emergency Management, issued a press release about the damage seen in Huntington County from last night’s storms. It reads as follows.

The Huntington County Emergency Management Department is releasing information on the storm events that took place in the morning hours of June 23, 2016 around 1:10AM. During the evening hours of June 22 and the morning hours of June 23 the EMA EOC was activated to monitor the weather conditions. With the assistance of the National Weather Service we were able to have very accurate information as to the possibility of severe weather. With storm spotters out in the field and weather monitors in the EOC there was a significant amount of damage that occurred in the Rock Creek township area in Huntington County. Other areas of the county were also affected but not as intense as Rock Creek. A weather system that moved through the area caused considerable damage to Homes, Barns, Trees and Powerlines. Following the storm there was initially 1000 people with out power. As of 1100 am on Thursday, that number had been reduced to 400 people however several county roads were still blocked from powerlines and poles. At this time, representatives from the National Weather Service are surveying the area of damage to try and determine the type of wind or storm damage.”

Huntington County Emergency Management also asked residents around the county to send in pictures of storm damage via their Facebook page.
