WABASH, IN – The annual Wabash County High School Art Competition, with artwork on display through April 16 at the Honeywell Center Clark Gallery, has resulted with 5 winners, one from each high school within Wabash County namely, Wabash High School, Heartland Career Center, Manchester High School, Northfield High School and Southwood High School. Sponsorship for this exhibit/competition is provided by the Wabash Optimist Club.

The high school art competition is held each year during the month of March, which is “Youth Art Month”. Youth Art Month promotes art and art education across the United States. Each year, thousands of schools across the nation participate, and often involve the participation of local art museums and organizations such as the Honeywell Foundation.

The goal of the exhibit is to emphasize the value of art and art education for all children. Art Education develops self-esteem, appreciation of the work of others, self-expression, cooperation with others, and critical thinking skills. All of these skills are vital to the success of our future leaders – our children.

The following students were awarded and recognized as this year’s winners:

Chaney Byers, Wabash High School – “RV”

Jeremy Higgins, Heartland Career Center – “Ice Tree”

Lillian Myers, Manchester High School – “Shoe”

Mariah Kirtlan, Northfield High School – “Flamingo”

Dayna Dale, Southwood High School – “Avatar”

The Clark Gallery hosts more than ten exhibits per year and features students, amateurs, and professionals. Exhibits include the Wabash County Schools, Themed Art Competition, and Wabash Art Guild. Because the Gallery encompasses the semi-circle of the Honeywell Center Porter Lobby, foot traffic exceeds 200,000 guests per year! Nearly every exhibit hosts a reception to introduce the public to the art. All of this is done free of charge because the Clark Gallery is a part of the mission of The Honeywell Foundation.
