Hinton S. Lyons, 77, Marion, passed away in his home at 9:40 am on Tuesday, December 12, 2023, surrounded by family. He was born in Mount Sterling, Kentucky, on Friday, November 15, 1946, to Elgin and Faye (Smith) Lyons. On May 13, 1972, he married Niala A. Johnson.
Hinton was a veteran of the United States Air Force, where he achieved the rank of Sergeant. Following his military service, he worked 24 years with the Marion Fire Department, retiring as a Lieutenant. He also worked at Roadway Express. Hinton was a member of Teamsters Local 135.
Hinton loved his family, and he especially enjoyed spending time and playing with his grandbabies. He also loved classic cars and fishing.
Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Niala A. Lyons of Marion; daughter, LaRonda (Corey) Wood of Alexandria; sons, Jason K. (Amanda) Lyons of Lagro and Jeremy K. Lyons of Muncie; grandchildren, LaTahla (Jason) Beardsley, Ashley Lyons, Mason Lyons, Logan Lyons, Alex Lyons, Matthew Lyons, Emma Lyons, and McKenna Lyons; great-grandson, Jaymison; great-granddaughter, Serianna; brother, Wayne K. (Kris) Lyons of Naples, FL; and sister-in-law, Marsha Hiatt of Marion.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Robin W. Lyons; and daughter-in-law, Angie Lyons.
The family will receive visitors from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm on Monday, December 18, 2023, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral & Cremation Service, North Chapel, 1341 N. Baldwin Ave., Marion, IN.
Immediately following the time of visitation, a service to celebrate Hinton’s life will begin at 1:00 pm with Pastor Tom Mansbarger officiating. Burial will take place at Grant Memorial Park.
