Governor Holcomb Appoints New Huntington Circuit Court Judge

Gov. Eric Holcomb has appointed Huntington County’s chief deputy prosecutor to succeed a judge who’s retirement comes amid sexual harassment allegations. Holcomb recently announced that Jamie Groves will succeed Huntington Circuit Court Judge Thomas Hakes, who retired Dec. 31. Hakes told Holcomb in August that he planned to retire at the end of 2017 after more than a decade as a Circuit Court judge. He cited “personal reasons.” A lawsuit filed Dec. 7 against Hakes by Huntington County’s chief probation officer alleges that he subjected her to “a campaign of sex-based harassment, discrimination, and retaliation” that included dozens of unwanted online messages and emails. Hakes has not commented on Heather Malone’s lawsuit.
