George William Zinsmeister

George William Zinsmeister, 83, of Roann, Indiana, died at 1:00 pm, Friday, April 12, 2019 at Wellbrooke of Wabash. He was born July 20, 1935 in Wabash County, to Donald Franklin and Marietta (Fitch) Zinsmeister.

George was a 1953 graduate of Chester High School and a US Army veteran. He married Marilyn A. Slee at the First Brethren Church in Roann on February 16, 1957; she died February 19, 2017. George was in the fertilizer business, managed the Roann Farm Market, and also worked at Urbana Ag Pro. He was a longtime member of the Roann First Brethren Church. He also belonged to the Roann Lions Club and served on the Paw Paw Township Advisory Board until 2018. George served on the Roann Volunteer Fire Department, where he also was a former Fire Chief. He was very active in the Roann Festival Committee, helped with the Roann Covered Bridge Pancake Breakfast, and helped organize the Roann Tractor Pull.

He is survived by two children, Deb (Dale) Tillman of Claypool, Indiana, and David Zinsmeister of North Manchester, Indiana; three grandchildren, Sarah Tillman, Steven (Elisabeth) Tillman, and Jeffrey Tillman, all of Claypool. He was also preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers, Nelson and Charles Zinsmeister.

Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 17, 2019 at Grandstaff-Hentgen Roann Chapel, 335 S. Chippewa Rd., Roann, with Rev. Kurt Snyder officiating. Burial will be in Roann Community Cemetery. Friends may call 2-8 p.m. Tuesday, at the funeral home.
