Ernest "Ray" Mooneyhan 26203873

Ernest “Ray” Mooneyhan, 84, of Marion, passed away at 9:42 am on Friday, October 21, 2022, in his home.  He was born in Jonesboro, Arkansas, on March 9, 1938, to George Washington and Zanna Mae (Smith) Mooneyhan.  He married Linda Sue Montgomery on June 19, 1958, and she survives.

Ray was an excellent lead guitar player who often said, “music is my therapy”.  Along with his wife, Linda, he played in multiple bands at various music jams and events.  He really enjoyed his music friends and always looked forward to their weekly sessions.  He was an avid country music fan and was able to play and sing to many traditional country songs.  His love of old-time gospel music made him a fan to many and was always a part of the sing-alongs.

He was a UAW committeeman at Fisher Body/CPC General Motors in Marion. His many hobbies included RC airplanes, where he was the founder and president of the Converse Flying Eagles.  Both he and Linda would enjoy winters in Winter Haven, Florida, where he served as president of the Fairview Village Mobile Home Association.

Ray was known for his abilities to solve almost any problem and, in turn, fix anything.  He could invent, design, and build from simple materials to complex machinery.  During his life, he would build lawnmowers, tractors, and homes, and even designed an authentic-looking Model A from a golf cart frame.

Above all, Ray loved his family and was never without his wife, Linda, who was by his side for more than 64 years.

Survivors include his wife, Linda Sue Mooneyhan of Marion; sons, Keith (Jane) Mooneyhan of Brookville, IN, and Tim (Shelly) Mooneyhan of Eaton, IN; daughter-in-law, Michelle Mooneyhan of Waycross, GA; grandchildren, Nathanial (Chrisie) Mooneyhan, Corbett Ray Mooneyhan, Mariah Mooneyhan, and Barak (Kara) Mooneyhan; great-grandson, Graham Mooneyhan; and great-granddaughter, Paisley Kem.

He was preceded in death by father, George Washington Mooneyhan; mother, Zanna Mae Mooneyhan-Grim; brothers, Leonard Mooneyhan, William Mooneyhan, and Floyd Mooneyhan; sisters, Pauline Shephard, Della Mae Mooneyhan, and Maudine Walker; and son, Mark Mooneyhan.
