WABASH,Indiana – Twenty-three residents of Wabash County voted on the first day of early voting on Tuesday. According to a Facebook post by the County Clerk’s Office, only seven Wabash County residents voted on the first day of early voting in the 2012 Primary election – which was, of course, the last presidential election cycle. Whether a voter casts a ballot early or on the day of the Primary election on May 3rd, residents of most of the city of Wabash can choose not to vote on a Republican or Democratic Party ballot but, instead, vote only on the public question. Regardless, most city voters who will be 18 by May 3rd will be able to vote yea or nay to paying slightly higher property taxes to help support Wabash City School’s programs and help retain the school district’s teachers. If passed, the increase in taxes would effectively mean that an average homeowner in the city will pay an additional $50 per year for seven years.

Early will continue in the Wabash County Clerk’s office at the Judicial Center in Wabash until May 2nd at 12 noon. Voting hours are 8 am until 4 pm Monday through Friday. Additionally, the County Clerk’s office will be open for early voting on Saturday, April 23rd from 8 am until 3 pm, and on Saturday, April 30th from 8 am until 4 pm.

Early voting will also take place in North Manchester at the Peabody Retirement Home and at the Liberty Township Fire Station in LaFontaine on Saturday, April 23rd from 8 am until 3 pm. Additionally, early voting will also take place at those locations from 8 am until 4 pm on Saturday, April 30th.
