Early college options nothing new to Wabash City Schools


WABASH, IN-The start of the 2023-2024 school year is just around the corner. And, for 19 of
Wabash Early College High School’s recent graduates, they will begin their first year o
college as sophomores. This is a result of these students’ attainment of the Indiana
College Core. The Indiana College Core is a block of 30 credit hours of general education
college-level coursework that transfers seamlessly among all Indiana public colleges and
universities.

Students at Wabash Early College High School have multiple avenues to earn college
credit while in high school. This can be accomplished through dual-credit and AP options
available at the high school and taught by WHS teachers, onsite college courses, and
offerings at Heartland Career Center. Through the various avenues, Wabash Early College
High School had 210 different students who earned college credit during the 2022-2023
school year. The total number of college credits earned by all students was 2,596 credits.
This equates to a savings for families of at least $389,000! Credits were earned through IU
Kokomo, Huntington University, Vincennes University, and Ivy Tech Community College.
Wabash Early College High School is an endorsed Early College High School through the
Center of Excellence in Leadership of Learning (CELL) at the University of Indianapolis.
Wabash Early College High School has been an endorsed Early College High School since 2015.
