Donald “Don” L. Smith, 72, Marion, met his Lord and Savior at 8:50 a.m. on Wednesday, December 5, 2018, at Miller’s Merry Manor in Marion. A lifelong resident of Grant County, Don was born in Marion on March 4, 1946, to the late Henry and Mary (Small) Smith. On July 16, 1966, he married his loving bride, Mary Williams, and she survives.
Don worked in the assembly division at General Motors until his retirement. He enjoyed fishing, as well as working on projects around the house. He was a member of St. Paul Missionary Baptist, and he will be missed by countless family members and friends.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Mary; sons, Donald (Martina) Smith, Jr., Indianapolis, and Kim Ray (Amanda) Smith, Baltimore, MD; daughter, Maria (Ricardo) Watson, Colorado Springs, CO; 8 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren; brothers, Freddie Jones, Phoenix, AZ, Henry (Nadene) Smith, Jr., Marion, Tony Smith, Marion, Raymond Smith, Marion, Reggie (Rhonda) Smith, Marion, and West (Erica) Smith, Columbus; sisters, Rita (Art) Faulkner, Marion, Maryann Ruff, Birmingham, AL, Ida Stallings, Marion, and Sandra “Cindy” Love, Marion; sister-in-law, Betsey Smith, Indianapolis; and several nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by his twin brother, Ronald Smith.
The family will receive visitors from 10 a.m. to 12 noon with a Celebration of Life service for Don beginning at 12 noon on Tuesday, December 11, 2018, at St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church, 1204 W. 14th St., Marion, IN. Rev. C.L. Adams will be officiating with burial following at Grant Memorial Park.
