Donald “Don” E. Sands, 92, Marion, passed away at 6:34 pm on Monday, December 18, 2023, at Marion Health. He was born in Marion, Indiana, on Tuesday, October 27, 1931, to Alvin and Dora (Coffelt) Sands. On January 28, 1950, he married Betty Maxine Sharon, and she preceded him in death on August 6, 2012.
Don graduated from Van Buren High School and served in the United States Navy on the USS Randall during the Korean Conflict. Following his military service, he was a self-employed general contractor. He was a builder of Custom Homes and commercial properties in the Marion and Indianapolis areas. Don enjoyed fishing and playing cards, and he followed the Indianapolis Colts.
Survivors include his daughters, Kathleen J. (Barry) Lawson of Marion and Bobbie L. (Mark) Satterwhite of Marietta, GA; grandsons, Gordon Lawson and Aaron (Cameron) Satterwhite; and granddaughters, Shelby Satterwhite and Cally Satterwhite.
He was also preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Harvey Dewaine Sands and Merrill “Dutch” Sands, Sr.; and step-father, Harold Petit.
The family will receive visitors from 10:00 am to 11:00 am on Friday, December 22, 2023, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral & Cremation Service, North Chapel, 1341 N. Baldwin Ave., Marion, IN.
Immediately following the time of visitation, a service to celebrate Don’s life will begin at 11:00 am. Burial will take place at Grant Memorial Park.
