Dee Myron Byerly

Dee Myron Byerly, 86, of Wabash, Indiana, died at 11:05 pm, Saturday, January 20, 2024, at Hickory Creek Nursing Home in Huntington, Indiana.  He was born on January 18, 1938, in Decatur, Indiana, to Loyd L. and Dolores B. (Buckmaster) Byerly.

Dee was a 1956 graduate of Adams Central High School, and attended Ohio Northern University in Ada, Ohio. He married Marylin Sue Roop in Decatur on September 22, 1956. Dee worked at the Adams County Co-Op, as the Credit Union Manager and Office Manager, before moving to the Wabash Co-Op in 1967, and was the first President and C.E.O of North Central Co-Op. He worked in the Co-Op system 44 years. Dee was a member of the First United Methodist Church, where he served on the trustee board. He was also a member of the Wabash City Board of Works, served on the United Fund Board, the Wabash Chamber of Commerce Board, and received the Distinguished Citizen Award in 2007. Dee served as Chairman of the first fund drive of the Wabash YMCA, was the chair of the building committee, and also was a member of the building and grounds committee. He was a member of the Hanna Masonic Lodge and the Shrine Club, both in Wabash, the Fort Wayne Scottish Rite, and the Fort Wayne Mizpah Shrine, where he also belonged to the Mizpah Vettes Club, the R.O. Jesters Court 27, and the Mizpah Antique Power Club. Dee also belonged to the Wabash Elks Lodge.  

He is survived by wife, Sue Byerly of Wabash; three children, Steven (Tina) Byerly and Debra (Russell) Grindle, both of Wabash, and Michael (Cindy) Byerly of Wyoming, Michigan; five grandchildren, Stefanie (Brian) Bassett, Christopher (Sarah) Grindle, Ashley Bumgardner, Bailey (Brad) Nettle, and Beau (Kaitlyn) Byerly; nine great-grandchildren, Braylon Bassett, Raegan Bassett, Faith Bassett, Reece Bumgardner, Maddox Bumgardner, Lucy Grindle, Jacob Grindle, Colton Byerly, and Miles Nettle; and his sister, Mary Ellen Arnold of Geneva, Indiana.  He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services will be 10:00 am, Saturday, January 27, 2024 at Grandstaff-Hentgen Funeral Service, 1241 Manchester Avenue, Wabash, with David Phillips officiating. Burial will be in Falls Cemetery, Wabash.  Friends may call 2-7 pm Friday, at the funeral home, and there will be a masonic service at 7:00 pm.

Preferred memorials are Shriners Children’s Hospital and First United Methodist Church.
