David C. Percy, 68, was surrounded by his family when he passed away in his Jonesboro home at 6:26 p.m. on Friday, August 25, 2017. He was born in Marion on February 5, 1949, to Charles and Docina (Purtee) Percy and was a lifelong resident of Grant County.

A 1967 graduate of Marion High School, David enlisted in the U.S. Army and served as a combat engineer during the Vietnam War. He was a member of the AMVETS in Marion. On December 30, 1969, David married his sweetheart, Judy G. Lollar. He began working at AEP as a lineman in 1970 and made it his career until his retirement.

Each week, David always looked forward to meeting a group of his cousins for breakfast. He enjoyed spending time at his lake cottage, and he had a passion for fishing and being on the pontoon boat. David was also quite the handyman and had built a home, as well as remodeled his own home. He was an avid IU fan.

David was a loving, friendly, and compassionate man who never met a stranger. He will be missed by his mother, Docina Percy; his loving wife of 47 years, Judy; children, Lisa A. (Jeff) Stevens, Fairmount, and Nikki (Chad) Kimes, Marion; grandchildren, Anastacia M. Maine, Marion, Charles David Darby, Fairmount, Kelsey Kimes, Denver, Indiana, and Brett Kimes, Denver, Indiana; sibling, Rita Percy Anderson; nephews, Greg and Curtis Anderson and Chris and Scott Dover; several friends; and his dog, Bo.

He was preceded in death by his father, Charles Percy; brothers-in-law, Roger Anderson and Charlie R. Lollar; and mother-in-law, Gladys Lollar Neal.

The family will receive visitors from 4-8 p.m. on Wednesday, August 30, 2017, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, Storey Chapel, 400 E. Main St., Gas City, IN.

Services to celebrate David’s life will be held at the funeral home at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, August 31, 2017. Mike Purtee will be officiating with burial following at Grant Memorial Park.
