On September 19, 2016, at approximately 1:21 a.m. Wabash City Police responded to a one vehicle crash at Lafontaine Avenue and Waterworks Road. Wabash City Police reported that upon arrival they located a lone female occupant had crashed her vehicle into the cement structure supporting the railroad overpass. Wabash City Fire Department arrived on scene and had to extricate the female from the vehicle. A Samaritan helicopter landed in the Knights of Columbus lot where the female was airlifted to a Ft. Wayne Hospital. At approximately 4:08 a.m. Allen County Coroner advised the female had died due to her crash related injuries. Identification of the female will be made by the Allen County Coroner’s office. This crash investigation is still an active investigation and any contributing causes of this crash are yet to be determined. Officers from Wabash City Police were assisted by Wabash County Sheriff’s Deputies, Wabash City Fire, Wabash County EMA, and Samaritan Helicopter.
