WABASH COUNTY – The Wabash County Jail will undergo repairs which were approved Tuesday morning, Sept. 6, by the Wabash County Commissioners.
Southern Folger Detention Equipment Company, San Antonio, Texas, will be repairing two jail doors and perform maintenance on 35 other jail doors.
The cost for the repairs will be $7,490, Sheriff Bob Land told Commissioners.
Officials looked into replacing just two doors, and that would have cost more than $28,000.
In another matter, Land reported that the Wabash County Jail currently had 90 inmates, with another 52 in Miami County and six in Elkhart County.
The average daily population last week in Wabash was 85,75, with 17 new inmates added last week. There also was 14 transports to the Indiana Department of Transportation.
Including all the inmates at the three locations, the total daily average was 145.75 inmates.
Commissioners also gave Land permission to seek a $100,000 transfer to the inmate transfer fund when the Wabash County Council meets on Sept. 26.
He said those funds should last through November.
He also will request the Council transfer $15,000 from the AACTION grant to be used for Operation Pull Over.
