WABASH,Indiana – At a five minute Wabash County Board of Commissioners meeting Monday morning, County Highway Superintendent John Martin advised the board that the county is going ahead with removal and replacement the old railroad viaduct over 700 West. Martin told MiBash News that the road at that part of 700 West has been closed since last September because a chunk of the viaduct had crumbled and fell on passing a truck. He added that the the viaduct is actually on private property but the landowners of that property cannot accomplish the removal themselves. Martin said that there is no time frame on the completion of the work.

Wabash County Sheriff Bob Land reported to the board that there are currently 79 inmates in the Wabash County Jail, with 33 overflow inmates housed in Miami County. Last week, the jail had an average population of 77.28, with 22 new book-ins and eight transports to the Department of Corrections. Land told MiBash News that he doesn’t know why the numbers are down. Land also said that the Sheriff’s Department has received one replacement Dodge Charger patrol car and is awaiting delivery for two more, as well as a new pickup for the Drug Task Force.

Keith Gillenwater, CEO of the Economic Development Group of Wabash County, was scheduled to give a 2015 year-end report but canceled due to a death in his family. This led to a shorter that usual meeting. County HR Director Jim Dils told MiBash News that all the commissioners meetings have been short as of late. When asked if the meetings should change from once a week to twice a month, Dils said that the commissioners have discussed it but they prefer to meet once a week.
