Commissioners Approve Salary And Wage Recommendation And Hear Inmate Update

WABASH,Indiana – At a 10 minute Wabash County Board of Commissioners meeting Monday morning, Sheriff Bob Land updated the number of inmates held in the Wabash County and Miami County jails. There are 84 inmates in the Wabash County jail with 45 overflow inmates housed in Miami County. Last week’s average was 130.28 inmates when both jails are combined. There were 24 new book-ins last week, seven transports to the Department of Corrections and 22 inmates in both locations are serving level 6 felony sentences. Land also broke down the numbers, saying that there are 12 females and 33 males being housed at the Miami County Jail.

The board also approved the Sheriff’s Department advertising a used 2010 Dodge Charger for sale. The former cruiser, which will sit outside on the upper lot of the Wabash County Courthouse, is being sold “as-is” and has roughly 196,000 miles.

County HR Director Jim Dils also informed the board that the five-member Personnel Administration Committee is recommending a $1,000 wage and salary increase for full-time employees and a 3% increase for part-time employees. Dils said that the county’s department heads are starting to create their 2017 budget requests to the Wabash County Council.

The board also approved an $2,416.84 additional appropriation request to for accrued used employee benefits out of the Rainy Day Fund be taken to the Wabash County Council. The money will be reimbursed to an undisclosed employee leaving the Prosecutor’s Office.
