Commissioners Approve Polling Locations

WABASH COUNTY – Polling locations for Wabash County have been approved by the County Commissioners.
Commissioners approved a list of 10 polling locations for the upcoming Nov. 8 election when they met Monday, Sept. 26.
Additionally, early voting options will soon be available at the County Clerk’s Office.
“We start early voting in the office two weeks from Wednesday, on Oct. 12,” Wabash County Clerk Elaine Martin said.
That office is located in the Wabash County Judicial Center at 69 W. Hill Street in Wabash. Early voting hours are Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. from Wednesday, Oct. 12 through Friday, Nov. 4, and from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 7.
Polling locations for the City of Wabash are:
First United Methodist Church, 110 N. Cass Street
Wellbrooke of Wabash, 20 N. John-Kissinger Drive.
Zion Lutheran Church, 173 Hale Drive.
Polling locations for towns in the county are:
Liberty Township Fire Department, 12 S. Wabash Avenue, LaFontaine.
Lagro Town Hall, 230 Buchanan Street, Lagro.
Pleasant Township Fire Department, 10459 N. Ogden Road, Laketon
North Manchester Public Safety Building, 709 W. Main Street, North Manchester
North Manchester Public Library, 405 N. Market Street, North Manchester.
Roann Town Hall, 110 N. Chippewa Street, Roann.
Woodlawn United Methodist Church, 150 N. 2nd Street, Somerset.
Those wishing to vote on a Saturday may do so from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 29 at the clerk’s office, Liberty Township Fire Department or Peabody Retirement Community at 400 W. 7th Street in North Manchester, or between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 5 at the clerk’s office, Liberty Township Fire Department or Timbercrest Senior Living Community at 2201 East Street in North Manchester.
Voters registered in Wabash County may vote at any polling location within the county.
The commissioners also approved an amended contract with the Economic Development Group of Wabash County.
“For 2017, it raises the county contribution to $77,500 payable in two equal installments in January and June 2017. For 2018, it goes up to $85,000 payable in two equal installments in January and June of 2018,” County Attorney Steve Downs said.
The previous years’ contract required a county contribution of $70,000, payable in two equal installments.
The amendment to the contract was passed unanimously.
In other news, Sheriff Bob Land reported that Chad Basset and Josh Magnus were hired as replacement full-time jailers, and Shana Heeter and Jacob Lloyd were hired as replacement part-time jailers. As of Sept. 26, the Wabash County Jail has 87 inmates, with 53 being held in Miami County and five in Elkhart County. The Sheriff’s Department had 11 transfers to the Department of Corrections in the last week, with an addition four pending as of Monday morning.
