Cleo Hammond

Cleo Hammond, 98, passed away on Sunday, April 29, 2018 at Blair Ridge Health Center in Peru.

Born Cleo Kathryn Kunkle, August 27, 1919 in Washington Twp., Miami County, the daughter of Elmo and Grace (Beck) Kunkle. She graduated from Peru High School, earned a BS in Education from Manchester College, and a Master of Library Science at Butler University.  Cleo taught from 1957-1971 at Butler Township School, Bunker Hill High School, and Maconaquah HIgh School.

On October 29, 1942 she was united in marriage to Charles B. Hammond in Los Angeles, California.  She was a member of Loree Brethren Church.

Surviving are their two children, Gregg K. (Kaili) Hammond and Sherry K. Hammond, both of Peru.  She has five grandchildren: Ben Hammond, Mandy Enoch, Shawnna Parmeter, Emily Stansell, and Susana Ahern. There are 11 great grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her husband, brother Donald and sister Rheua.  Her sister Mrs. Raynard (Betty) Johnson lives in Sugarland, Texas.

A private service will be held in June.
