Cheryl Smith, 71, Marion, died on February 2, 2019 at Marion General Hospital. She was born in Huntington, IN on May 10, 1947, to the late Lawrence and Irma (Small) Troyer. She married Norman G. Smith on June 8, 1969.
Cheryl was a graduate of the class of 1965 at Van Buren High School and attended Ball State University where she obtained her B.S. and Masters in Elementary Education. She later obtained a librarian endorsement as well. She was an elementary teacher in the Oak Hill School System at Sweetser Elementary as well as West Side Christian School. She was the director of the Van Buren Library and a librarian at Marion Public Library. She was a member of Herbst United Methodist Church, the Psi Iota XI Sorority, Grant County Retired Teachers Association, Speeders 55, Red Hat Society, Swayzee Junior Women’s Club, Swayzee Book Club, and Herbst UMC Women’s Society. Cheryl enjoyed reading, crafts, playing the piano, making jewelry, and traveling, especially spending her winters in Florida. Cheryl made friends everywhere she went and loved life.
Cheryl is survived by her husband, Norm; brother, Steve (Sarah) Troyer, Gas City; sister-in-law, Joyce (Jack) Grimble, Waynetown; nephews, Derek (Michelle) Troyer and Justin Grimble; nieces, Stephanie Troyer and Jana (Tim) Secrist; great-nieces, Megan and Alexis; great-nephews, Aiden, Kale and Beau; and special friend, Wanda Troyer, along with several other friends.
Cheryl was preceded in death by her parents, Lawrence and Irma Troyer, and in-laws, Bob and Ilene Smith.
Family and friends may call from 12 noon to 2 p.m. on Tuesday, February 5, 2019, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, North Chapel, 1341 N. Baldwin Ave., Marion, IN.
Cheryl’s funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, February 5 2019, at the funeral home with Pastor Jeremy Moore officiating. A graveside service will be held at Maple Grove Cemetery.
