Charles E. “Bud” Bennett

Charles E. “Bud” Bennett, 87, Marion, passed away at Visiting Nurse and Hospice Home in Fort Wayne at 9:22 p.m. on Wednesday, April 11, 2018. He was born in Marion on May 6, 1930, to the late Fred and Stella (Burniauskas) Bennett. Bud married Jean Shinault on November 5, 1988, and she survives.

Bud was a U.S. Army veteran, serving on the 14th Regimental Combat Team during the Korean War. Following his military service, he began working at RCA, where he was an Engineering Technician in the Analytical Lab. After his retirement in 1987, Bud enjoyed playing golf at Hart’s (Arbor Trace) Golf Course, gardening, cooking, and Wednesday night poker. Bud attended Mt. Olive United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his loving wife of nearly 30 years, Jean; son, David Alan (Shirley) Bennett, Conroe, Texas; daughters, Kathy Lynn (Larry) Cole, Surprise, Arizona, and Susan Ann (Rod) Garrett, Loveland, Ohio; step-son, Eric (Lu Ann) Shinault, Ozark, Missouri; grandchildren, Doug Bennett, Houston, Texas, Lindsay Jackson, Houston, Texas, and Miles Garrett, Cincinnati, Ohio; great-grandchildren, Justin Jackson and Christian Jackson, both from Houston, Texas; brother, Ralph Bennett, Marion; and sisters, Shirley (David) Chambers and Pam Couch, both from Fairmount.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Juanita Miles Bennett; sister, Martha (John) Sonda; sister-in-law, Elaine Bennett; and brother-in-law, Claude “J.R.” Couch.

Bud’s memorial service will be at 1 p.m. on Monday, April 16, 2018, at the VA Protestant Chapel, 1700 E. 38th St., Marion, IN. Pastor Rob Barton will be officiating.

Arrangements are entrusted to Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, North Chapel, 1341 N. Baldwin Ave., Marion, IN.
