Cathy Ann Schmalzried, 76, of rural Wabash, Indiana, died at 4:14 pm, Monday, January 15, 2024, at Wellbrooke of Wabash. She was born on November 27, 1947, in Evansville, Indiana, to Orville “Bud” Schaus and Martha F. (Diebler) Schaus Curless.
Cathy was a 1965 graduate of Southwood High School. She married Robert E. “Bob” Schmalzried at the LaFontaine Christian Church on June 20, 1987; he died May 1, 2014. Cathy was a beautician for 40 years and retired from the Ford Meter Box Credit Union. She was a member of the LaFontaine Christian Church, sang with the Singing Christians and participated in Emmaus Walks. Cathy volunteered at the Parkview Wabash Hospital. She enjoyed traveling and watching the Game Show Network.
She is survived by three children, Nancy (Lee) Powell and Teresa (Jeff) Galley, both of Wabash, and Mike (Joanne) Glover of Bossier City, Louisiana; two step children, Rick (Andrea) Schmalzried of Plymouth, Indiana and Ellen (Jay) Tung of California; seven grandchildren, Riley (Megan) Powell, Isaac (Nicole) Powell, Jared Stevens, Catherine Galley, Will Galley, Jaden Glover, and Bryant Glover; six great grandchildren; 15 step grandchildren; several step great grandchildren; and three sisters, Linda Conner of LaFontaine, Nancy (Jan) Blocher of North Manchester, Indiana, and Ruth (Tim) Ranck of Wabash. She was also preceded in death by her parents.
Funeral services will be 2:00 pm, Friday, January 19, 2024, at Grandstaff-Hentgen Funeral Service, 1241 Manchester Avenue, Wabash, with Brad Wright officiating. Burial will be in Hopewell Cemetery, Lagro. Friends may call 12:30-2:00 pm Friday, at the funeral home.
Preferred memorials are LaFontaine Christian Church or Parkview Wabash Hospital.
