Canton Moore

Canton Moore, 93, Claypool, Indiana, passed away August 24, 2020 at Mason Health and Rehabilitation Center, Warsaw, Indiana. One of three children, Canton was born December 16, 1926 to Charles and Minnie (Dye) Moore in McDowell, Kentucky. After living several years in Kentucky, Canton and his family moved to Wabash, Indiana.

On March 16, 1944, Canton enlisted into the United States Army. During his time serving the United States, Canton was a Heavy Machine Gunner. After being Honorable Discharged from the military, Canton married the loved of his life Ellaree Allen on June 14, 1946. The two were married for seventy-four years. During that time, Canton worked for the Nickel Plate Railroad for over ten years and later worked for Warsaw Community Schools as a bus driver for thirty years. They attended Gospel Hill Pentecostal Church of God, Silver Lake, Indiana.

Music was always a true passion of Cantons. He spent over fifty years playing in the Moore Brothers Band, playing bluegrass music. His instrument of choice was the Mandolin. He enjoyed camping at festivals and entertaining the crowds of people. It was his family however, that had his heart. He relished his time with his family and was kind, easy going, and had a caring personality. He was very giving to anyone in need and gave to help nonprofit organizations in need. Canton had the ability to walk up to anyone and make them a friend.

The loving memory of Canton Moore will be forever cherished by his wife, Ellaree Moore, Claypool, Indiana; son, Jeffrey Moore, Claypool, Indiana; brother, Ray Moore, Columbia City, Indiana; grandchildren, Taylor (Jennifer) Moore, Atlanta, Georgia, Nicholas (Katie) Moore, Jersey City, New Jersey, and Caroline Moore, Indianapolis, Indiana; great-grandchildren, Miles, Cord, and Winni Moore. Canton was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Mae Bradley who passed away March 13, 2008.

Family and friends may call Friday, August 28, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at McKee Mortuary, 1401 State Road 114 West, North Manchester, Indiana. Funeral services for Canton Moore will begin at the conclusion of calling. Pastor J.P. Freeman will officiate. Burial will be at Lakeview Cemetery Silver Lake, Indiana.
