Billy Ray Sturgill Sr., 80, of Roann, Indiana, died at 11:30 am, Friday, October 13, 2023, at The Waters of Wabash East. He was born on May 11, 1943, in Pound, Virginia, to Woodrow and Maudie Ellen (Sturgill) Sturgill.
Bill retired from General Tire in Wabash in 2003. He enjoyed playing Euchre and bowling, and also enjoyed watching his grandkids and great-grandkids activities. He loved all of his grandchildren dearly.
He is survived by three children, Sonia Poe of Roann, Billy Ray (Rana) Sturgill, Jr. of Peru, Indiana, and Ruth Sturgill of Wabash; 11 grandchildren, Brandon (Brittany) Poe of Wabash, Adam Poe of Roann, Kane Rockenbaugh of Peru, Peyton Sturgill of Indianapolis, Indiana, Trey Sturgill of Peru, Kali (Khristian) Schlemmer of Lebanon, Tennessee, Ethan Schultz and Emiliee Schultz of Wabash, Eric Gearhart of Akron, Indiana, Kristal (Isiah) Mylin of Carmel, Indiana, and Cassandra Haupert of Fort Wayne, Indiana; 12 great grandchildren; and three sisters, Beulah Coots and Peggy Castle, both of Wabash, and Patsy Wendell of Portland, Indiana. He was preceded in death by his parents, two daughters, Sandra Jean Gagnon and Robin Stanton, grandson Andrew Barton, four brothers, Ronnie, Bob, Foster, and Ted Sturgill, and his sister, Pearl Sturgill.
Funeral services will be 10:30 am, Wednesday, October 18, 2023, at Grandstaff-Hentgen Roann Chapel, 335 S. Chippewa Rd., Roann, with Rev. Nathan Whybrew officiating. Entombment will be in Chapel of Remembrance Mausoleum, at Memorial Lawns Cemetery, Wabash. Friends may call 3-7 pm Tuesday, at the funeral home.
