Betty H. Heavin

Betty H. Heavin, 95, of Marion, passed away at 3:36 am on Friday, October 8, 2021, at Miller’s Merry Manor in Marion. She was born in Kanawha City, West Virginia, on September 14, 1926 to Howard and Esther (Dennis) McPherson.

In 1945, Betty graduated from Greenfield High School. She worked in civil service during World War II at Wright Patterson Field in Dayton, Ohio. She taught Sunday School and ministered for years while working and managing Stout Shoe Shore, retiring from there after 43 years.

In 1978, she married Edwin Heavin, the best man the Lord ever made. She gave thanks to God and her husband for supporting her.

In 1992, Betty enrolled at Aenon Bible College and received her Associate’s Degree in Theology in 1995. She taught and preached all the time she went to college. She was a member of Westside Pentecostal Church for 23 years in Indianapolis and, more recently, a member of the First Pentecostal Church in Greenfield, pastored by Bishop Kenneth E. Brown.

Betty continued her education at Aenon, receiving a Bachelor of Arts in Christian Education. She was inducted into the Circulus Scholarum, which is the Circle of Scholars in 2000. She also received both a Master’s Degree in Theology and Doctor of Sacred Letters in 2002 at Midwest Bible College, and she was honored a teaching degree in May of the same year.

During those years, Betty furthered her education by taking four trips to Israel–in 1995, 1997, 1998, and 1999. She enjoyed a wonderful boat ride on the Sea of Galilee. She also received the thrill of planting a grapevine on the Hills of Samaria (Jeremiah 31:5).

Betty was also privileged to study in Corinth and Athens, Greece; tour many of the Seven Churches of Asia (Turkey); as well as visit and study in Cairo, Egypt.

In 1993, Betty was very happy to receive her ministerial license into the Pentecostal Assemblies of the Word, Inc., and then be ordained into the P.A.W. in June of 1999.

It is with humble thanks to Bishop and Dr. Sims for being the great people they are, as well as great teachers and mentors. It was Betty’s privilege to have known them for many years. Her life was enriched by just knowing them. They were her professors at Aenon, and she learned many things from them. We dearly love you!

Betty is survived by several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by her loving husband and ten siblings.

The family will receive visitors from 10:00 am to 11:00 am followed by a time of sharing at 11:00 am on Thursday, October 14, 2021, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, North Chapel, 1341 N. Baldwin Ave., Marion, IN. Burial will take place at 1:30 pm in Park Cemetery in Greenfield.
