Betty “Arlene” Sprong, 83, Marion, went to be with the Lord at 12:14 p.m. on Wednesday, February 14, 2018, at Marion General Hospital. She was born in Marion on September 29, 1934, to the late John and Margaret (Mikesell) Case. Arlene married Donald E. Sprong in 1950, and he preceded her in death in 1997.
Arlene retired from Palmer’s Meat Market in Marion after 30 years of service. She always loved to cook, and she especially enjoyed spending time with her kids and grandkids. She was a member of Grace Community Church.
Survivors include her children, Gina (Bill) Whelchel, Upland, Russell (Theresa) Sprong, Upland, Sue (Terry Johnson) Simpkins, Gas City, and Lori (David) Terry, Gas City; sisters, Linda (Richard) Streder, Marion, and Diana (Ron) Wolfe, Marion; brother-in-law, James Brewer, Marion; grandchildren, Jason, Shauna, Jennifer, Jacob, Kelli, Jared, and Morgan; and 9 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Robert E. Sprong; grandson, Travis Simpkins; brother, Richard Case; and sisters, Pat Brewer and Connie Dickerson.
The family will have a private service for Arlene.
