MUNCIE, Ind. (WTHR) – A suspicious package found behind a gas station near Ball State University turned out to be a smoke detector.
Ball State’s alert Twitter account says the package was found behind the Marathon at Tillotson & Bethel.
A spokesperson for the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the bomb squad was called in around 2 p.m. to investigate a beeping sound coming from the package. They later confirmed it was a smoke detector that someone had thrown out at the gas station.
Several roads in the area were closed while the bomb squad was on scene. They are now re-opening.
