Attend a Benefit Dinner for Peru Police Officer Tyler Hagan this Friday, December 15th

PERU, Ind. – Peru Police Officer Tyler Hagan, 29, was diagnosed with cancer in November, when officer Hagan was taken to the hospital after he was dispatched on a call and started having trouble breathing. That’s when they discovered a cancerous germ-cell tumor. After Hagan’s diagnosis, the police department immediately started brainstorming ways to raise money to help cover his chemotherapy treatments. This Friday, December 15th, a benefit dinner will be held at the old firehouse in Peru, located at the corner of Main and Miami streets. The event will run from 5 to 8 p.m., and freewill donations will be accepted. People can also buy raffle tickets for a chance to win #Tyler96Strong gear. Dinner will include pulled pork, baked beans, potato salad, chips, drink and dessert. Officer Hagan currently travels to Indianapolis to receive chemotherapy five days in a row, with a two-week break in between each five-day treatment session. Officer Lee Mitchell said the prognosis for Hagan and his family looks good, since the tumor appears to be a very treatable form of cancer. Due to officer Hagan’s time off from work during his road to recovery, the department is also accepting food and gas cards to assist the family with travel expenses during treatments. Anyone interested in donating can stop by the Peru Police Department at 35 S. Broadway.
