Artillery Shells Found in Huntington Creek

HUNTINGTON,IN   The Huntington County Sheriff’s Department responded to the area of 800 N. and 400 W. (Clear Creek) in reference to a neighbor to the creek, located artillery shells, that had been dumped into the creek.

The Fort Wayne bomb squad responded and after x-raying one of the shells they determined that it was likely a live round. This morning recovery efforts by the bomb team in extracting (11) 78mm artillery shells from the creek bottom.

The bomb disposal unit from Grissom Air Force base responded to the scene to take charge of the ordinance. After inspection and documentation of all the items they were destroyed on a nearby property.

After they were destroyed the bomb team was able to confirm that all 11 were live rounds…
