Alton “Gene” Kendall

Alton “Gene” Kendall, 81, of Warren, IN, formerly of Wabash, IN, left this world with his family by his side at 10:30 PM on Sunday, February 11, 2018 at Heritage Pointe in Warren, IN.  He was born on February 11, 1937 in Wabash to Alton J. & Pauline Tomson Kendall.  Pauline passed away when Gene was a young boy. His father later remarried to Florence Smith, who helped raise Gene and his two brothers, Arthur and Arlen.

He married Brenda Stanley on January 20, 1960 at Plummer’s Chapel in Huntington Co, IN; together the two just celebrated their 58th year of marriage.  Gene was a 1954 graduate of Noble High School. He formerly worked at North Central Co Op in Wabash for 42 years before retiring. Gene and Brenda would winter in Arcadia Florida, where they loved to play cards and enjoy the warm weather. They moved from Wabash to Heritage Pointe in Warren in 2015. Gene and Brenda attended the College Corner Brethren Church in Wabash. Gene was a Mason at the Hanna Lodge #61 in Wabash. Gene played high school basketball, loved watching sports and was an avid golfer.

 

Loving survivors include: Wife – Brenda (Stanley) Kendall, Warren, IN, Son – Kelly (Bryon Johnmeyer) Kendall, Kansas City, MO, Daughter – Chris (Ernie) Ortiz, Fayette, AL, Grandchildren – Clark Ortiz, Heather Ortiz, Bailey (Alisha) Johnmeyer, Great Grandchild – Clinton Eric Johnmeyer, his two older brothers; oldest Arthur Dale (Mary Lou) Kendall of Roanne, IN and youngest Arlen (Dianna) Kendall of Wabash, IN.

 

He was preceded in death by his: Father – Alton J. Kendall, biological Mother-Pauline Tomson Kendall and Step Mother – Florence Smith Kendall.

 

Family and friends may gather to share and remember at Heritage Pointe Applegate Chapel 801 Huntington Ave. Warren on Friday, February 16, 2018 from 11:30 AM to 1:30 PM. A service to celebrate Gene’s life will follow at 1:30 PM with Chaplain Dick Case officiating.  Interment will follow in the Gardens of Memory in rural Marion.

 

Gene and Brenda most recently attended College Corner Brethren Church 8996 S. 500 W. Wabash, IN 46992; donations may be made to the church in lieu of flowers.

 

Arrangements are being handled by Glancy – H. Brown & Son Funeral Home in Warren.
