Allen Edson Line

Allen Edson Line, 97, of Gas City, went to be with his Lord at 11:20 am on Thursday, January 7, 2021, at Miller’s Merry Manor in Marion. He was born in Marion, Indiana, on July 8, 1923, to Edson and Arminta (Borland) Line. He married the love of his life, Margaret I. Henkel, and they shared 71 years of marriage until her passing on October 10, 2014.

Allen worked at Owens Illinois before following in his father’s footsteps and becoming a self-employed carpenter. Allen owned and operated Allen Line Construction for over 50 years in Gas City, retiring in 1985.

Allen was a charter member of New Hope Baptist Church in Gas City. He liked listening to music, especially gospel and country. Allen enjoyed solving word find puzzles and traveling. He liked being outside, especially spending time sitting and sleeping on his porch swing in the summer months.

Survivors include his son, Richard Line of Gas City; daughter, Karen (Steve) Line-Wilhoff of Leo; granddaughters, Angela (Mike) Estrada, Tricia (David) Parker and Paige Geist; grandson, Jason Line; great-grandsons, Connor Parker, Cameron Parker and Nicholas Estrada; great-granddaughter, Jamie Parker; plus, several nieces, nephews and friends.

In addition to his parents and loving wife, Allen was preceded in death by his son, Michael (Ruth) Line; granddaughter, Jennifer Butcher; brothers, Albert Line, Harry Line and Aaron Line; sisters, Marie Shuff, Gladys Jervis, Martha Belle Keifer, Mary Brattain, Ruth Listenfelt, Opal Barbour, Wilma Phiffer and Catherine Line; and twin infant brothers.

The family will receive visitors from 4 to 8 pm on Thursday, January 14, 2021 at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, Storey Chapel, 400 E. Main St., Gas City, IN 46933.

A funeral to celebrate Allen’s life will be held at 10 am on Friday, January 15, 2021 at New Hope Baptist Church, 800 E. South C St., Gas City, IN 46933 with Pastor Curtis Rhoadarmer officiating. There will be a visitation from 9 – 10 am on Friday at church prior to the funeral. Burial will take place at Riverside Cemetery.
