Alice Faye Proffitt

Alice Faye Proffitt, 82, Wabash, passed away at 1:58 pm on Wednesday, December 13, 2023, at her daughter’s home, surrounded by her family. She was born in Marion, Indiana, on Sunday, September 14, 1941, to Arltain and Anita (Madley) Jefferies.  On October 23, 1959, she married Donald L. Proffitt, who preceded her in death.  

In 1959, Alice graduated from Van Buren High School and embraced a fulfilling life as a dedicated homemaker with a passion for meticulous housekeeping.  Renowned for her culinary skills, she delighted family and friends with her impressive cooking and love for entertaining.  Alice’s devotion extended beyond her home, as she passionately shared the Gospel and was a devoted prayer warrior, diligently reading scripture.  Her spiritual journey unfolded over three decades at Immanuel Baptist Church, where she taught children’s Sunday School and served as their Director.  She continued her spiritual journey at Emmanuel Baptist Church in Wabash, where she was renowned for her homemade cinnamon rolls.

Survivors include her daughter, Janice (Tim) Harter of Columbia City; sons, Jerry (Sheri) Proffitt of Wabash and Greg Proffitt (Treccia Proffitt) of Wabash; brothers, Richard (Betsy) Jefferies of Jonesboro and Rick (Suanne) Jefferies of Marion; grandchildren, Elizabeth (Derek) Mysliwiec, Kimberly (Adam) Parker, Tanner Proffitt, Tyler Proffitt, Jessica (Ryan) Fishback, MaKayla (Skylar Hall) Proffitt, and MaKenna Proffitt; and great-grandchildren, Alexia Wyse, Austin Wyse, Allison Parker, Madison Parker, Mason Fishback, Ella Fishback, and River Hall.

She was also preceded in death by her parents and her brothers, Bob Jefferies and Glenn Jefferies.

The family will receive visitors from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Monday, December 18, 2023, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral & Cremation Service, North Chapel, 1341 N. Baldwin Ave., Marion, IN.

On Tuesday, December 19, 2023, a funeral service to celebrate Alice’s life will take place at North Chapel at 11:00 am with Pastor Dean Pickett officiating. An additional hour of visitation will begin one hour prior to the service.  Burial will follow at LaFontaine I.O.O.F. Cemetery.
