Ada Herring

Ada Herring, 93, Marion, went to be with the Lord in her home on Saturday, January 26, 2019.  Born in Stella, KY, on December 17, 1925, Ada was the daughter of McClellan and Rosa (Arnette) Alsept.  She graduated from Camargo High School in Kentucky and was the only girl to play on an all-boys baseball team.  On October 18, 1947, she married her loving husband, Charles E. Herring.  They shared almost 50 years together before he passed away on October 11, 1996.

In her earlier years, during World War II, Ada worked at Marion Malleable Iron Works.  She was then employed as an assistant in physical therapy at Wesleyan Health Care Center in Marion.  Known as hard-working, very independent, and a daredevil, she would attempt to do anything!  At the age of 80, she rode her first ATV.  She wasn’t one who would turn down a dare or be told she couldn’t do anything.  She loved gardening and flowers, shopping, and playing her harmonica.  Most of all, Ada enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren, and she will be greatly missed.

She is survived by her daughters, Charlene (Paul) Powell and Wanda (Robert) Hale, both from Marion; grandchildren: Paul (Marlene) Powell, II, Marion; Lori (Mark) Dorman, Peru; Amy (fiancé, Scott Netherton) Powell, Indianapolis; Charles (Yolanda) Campbell, Marion; Amanda (James) Willis, Marion; Danielle (Jeffrey) McVicker, Indianapolis; Lacy Hale, Marion; and Jarrod Herring, Marion; 17 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-grandchild.

In addition to her parents and husband, Ada was preceded in death by her son, Jerry Herring, and seven siblings.

The family will receive visitors from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Friday, February 1, 2019, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, North Chapel, 1341 N. Baldwin Ave., Marion, IN.

Following the time of visitation, Ada’s funeral service will begin at 1 p.m. with Rev. Clifton Burton officiating.  Burial will take place at Grant Memorial Park.

Memorial contributions may be directed to Cancer Services of Grant County, Tower Suites, 305 S. Norton Ave., Marion, IN 46952 or Marion-Grant County Humane Society, P.O. Box 1921, Marion, IN 46952.
