KOKOMO, Ind. – Forty cyclists left the Statehouse Monday morning on a 13-day ride across Indiana to honor police officers killed in the line of duty. The 16th annual Cops Cycling for Survivors departed promptly at 9 a.m. and headed north for its evening stop in Kokomo. There, cyclists met with the family, friends and coworkers of Howard County Deputy Carl Koontz. Koontz, 26, was killed in March 2016 while serving a warrant.  Howard County Sheriff Steven Rogers was on hand to address the cyclists. Funds raised from the ride event are used to keep alive the memories of officers killed in the line of duty and to aid surviving family members and co-workers of officers killed in the line of duty. Previously raised funds have been donated to foundations, scholarships, and camps started in memory of fallen officers or by Indiana survivors in honor of their fallen heroes.
