Robert S. Johnson, 79, died in his Marion home at 9:04 p.m. on Saturday, August 5, 2017. He was born in Athens, Alabama, to Thomas H. and Bernice (Webb) Johnson. He married Betty E. Winningham Powell on December 26, 2009, and she survives.
Robert was the production engineering staff manager for Foster Forbes. He enjoyed fishing, and he liked hunting when he was younger. Robert was an avid racing fan, especially Sprint cars and NASCAR. He was involved at the Gas City racetrack for several years, as well as the track in Montpelier.
In addition to his wife, Betty, he is survived by his children, James Thomas (Patricia) Johnson, Amboy, Lori Anne Fisher, Hudson, Florida, Stephen T. (Rebecca) Johnson, Wilson, North Carolina, and Susan (Gary) Langley, Marion; 4 step-children, Sharon (Danny) Shearer, Richmond, Kentucky, Karen Ann Powell, Marion, Keith Powell, Marion, and Kevin Powell, Marion; 7 grandchildren, 7 step-grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren, and 1 step-great-great-grandchild; sister, Glenda (Rodney) Pence, Amboy; special niece, Debbie Darrah; and several other nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; 1st wife, Mary “Kate” Johnson; son, Robert L. Johnson; sister, Movaline Olinger; son-in-law, Donnie Fisher; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive visitors from 4-8 p.m. on Tuesday, August 8, 2017, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, North Chapel, 1341 N. Baldwin Ave., Marion, IN.
Robert’s funeral service will be held at the funeral home at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, August 9, 2017, with Pastor Bruce Koontz officiating. Burial will follow at Gardens of Memory.
