Rev. Robert L. Smith, 98, of Fort Wayne, IN, formerly of Yoder, IN, passed away on Sunday, October 15, 2017 at the Markle Health & Rehabilitation Center, Markle, IN.
Rev. Smith was born October 18, 1918 in Endicott, NY, to Leonard A. and Harriet (Jeffery) Smith. He married S. Joy Shafer in Oakdale, NY on August 16, 1941. She preceded him in death on November 2, 2015 after 74 years of marriage.
Rev. Smith was an ordained minister who served for 43 years in pastoral ministry in eight churches in six different states, with his last pastorate being at the Ossian Church of the Nazarene.
He is survived by his two sons: Paul (Joyce) Smith, Fort Wayne, IN and John (Janet) Smith, Wrentham, MA; 3 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
In addition to his wife and parents; he was preceded in death by a brother, Donald J. Smith and a sister, Marian Berg.
Calling hours will be from noon to 2:00 p.m. on Monday, October 23, 2017 at Christ’s Community Church, 10616 Liberty Mills Rd. Fort Wayne, IN 46804.
Funeral service will follow at the church at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Michael Daling officiating.
Burial will be at Prairie Grove Cemetery, Waynedale, IN, following the service.
