Edna G. Eakins

Edna G. Eakins, 69, Fairmount, went to be with the Lord at 3:04 p.m. on Sunday, October 15, 2017, at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne.  She was born in Marion on September 11, 1948, to Al Lemons and Helen (Southerland) Beatty.  Edna married Nathan “Nate” Eakins on March 30, 1974, and he survives.

Edna worked as a cashier in the cafeteria at Madison-Grant High School.  She had previously worked at Kmart in Gas City for 16 years.  She loved her family dearly and enjoyed going to her grandkids’ sporting events.  Edna was devoted to the Lord and loved serving in her church.  She never missed an opportunity to help people and needy families, especially around Christmas.  She was good at paying it forward.  Edna was also known for being a great cook, and she loved to work in her garden and learn more about the Lord through Bible studies.

She will be missed by her loving husband of 43 years, Nate; daughters, Mary Ann DeVaney, Marion, Laurie Eakins, Seward, Alaska, Yvonne VanDyne, Cookville, Tennessee, Jamie Barry, Fairmount, Rachael (David) Earhart, Maynardville, Tennessee, and Jimmy Reece, Marion; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; siblings, Larry Lemons, Bill Lemons, Junior Beatty, and Cindy Yandell, all from Texas, Terri Mitchner, Gas City, and Glenda Smith, North Manchester; special friends, Rita Steele, Linda Sheets, and several others; and her dog, Javier, and cat, Thomas.

The family will receive visitors from 4-8 p.m. on Wednesday, October 18, 2017, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, Storey Chapel, 400 E. Main St., Gas City, IN.

Services to celebrate Edna’s life will be held at the funeral home at 1 p.m. on Thursday, October 19, 2017.  Pastor Ron Johnson will be officiating with burial following at Riverside Cemetery.
