Walorski introduces Food Donation Improvement Act, Congressional Gold Medals, and recognizes retiree

ROCHESTER, IN- The following message is from Congresswoman Jackie Wolarski:
Dear Neighbor,
During this holiday season, many of us are finding ways to give back to our community. Americans – and especially Hoosiers – have long been characterized by a great spirit of generosity.
This week, I introduced bipartisan legislation, the Food Donation Improvement Act, to make it easier for restaurants, grocery stores, farms, and other businesses to donate food to their neighbors. Too often, ambiguous and outdated regulations prevent or discourage businesses and organizations from donating surplus food.
Not only will this legislation help to cut down on waste, but it also will help food reach those who need it most. Eliminating burdensome obstacles will equip communities to fight hunger – it just makes good sense.
In Congress, I am proud to serve as co-chair of the House Hunger Caucus and advance solutions to combat food insecurity and strengthen our communities. Read more about H.R. 6251, the Food Donation Improvement Act, here
Honoring Cpl. Sanchez and Our Fallen Heroes
Our fellow Hoosier Marine Cpl. Humberto Sanchez and 12 of his brothers and sisters in arms paid the ultimate sacrifice in service to our nation during the withdrawal from Afghanistan. Shortly after the horrific attack on our servicemembers, I helped introduce bipartisan legislation to posthumously award these heroes the Congressional Gold Medal – the highest honor that Congress can bestow. This week, our bill was finally signed into law.
These courageous men and women knew the risks of the mission and yet they stood in the face of danger to evacuate American citizens, partners, and allies from Afghanistan. Cpl. Sanchez spent his final moments helping to protect vulnerable children at the Abbey Gate of the Kabul airport. He and his fellow fallen demonstrated the greatest of the American spirit – a selfless willingness to serve and protect.
As a nation, we are forever indebted to these 13 servicemembers and to their families. We must ensure that these heroes and their selfless sacrifice are never forgotten. Read more about H.R. 5142 here

For nearly three decades, Jan Faker has been a remarkable advocate for Hoosiers. As a casework specialist, her vast knowledge of federal agencies and ample network of contacts equipped her to answer almost any question, cut through miles of red tape, and provide solutions to individuals and families who felt boxed into a corner.
Jan has helped thousands of Hoosiers during her 27 years as a casework leader. Before joining my team, she served as casework manager for former Congressman Steve Buyer (IN-04) and state director of constituent services for former Senator Dan Coats.
This month, she’s retiring as the senior casework liaison in my Rochester office. Thank you, Jan, for going above and beyond for Hoosiers!
As a reminder, my team is available to help Hoosiers navigate bureaucracy and cut through red tape. If you or a loved one could use assistance with a federal agency, such as the IRS, Social Security, or the VA, please learn more here.
